Govt secures $150m loan to prevent extremism in northern Ghana

The Local Government Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Okre constituency has informed the public how the government has secured a 150-million-dollar loan from the World Bank to prevent extremism when there’s a spillover due to the conflict on the border lines.

Daniel Kwaku Botwe said the money will be going into 548 projects with 48 districts benefiting from it to build the capacity and resilience of the people in the northern part of the country.

He said this when he embarked on a two-day tour, inspecting the progress of work of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Projects, GSCSP in three Municipalities under the programme in the Eastern Region.

The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin also noted that the centrality of government is outdated hence the need to embrace decentralized government.

He reiterated that the centrality government is an agent of corruption, and lacks transparency, accountability, and truthfulness.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin hinted that rural development carries a lot of weight for the country’s development.

He further called on the government to decentralized their activities to bring proper accountability and ownership of government projects in our locality.

Some residents in Lower Manya Municipality who sell and do their activities along one of the roads that were captured as part of the project called on the government to speed up the construction to avoid any disaster.
