Gyakye Quayson’s trial: Collins Owusu Amankwaa Descends On Dormaahene

Former Member of Parliament for Manhyia North constituency Collins Owusu Amankwaa has rejected calls from Dormaaahene,Oseadeoyo Agyeman Badu II calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to urge the Attorney General to end the trail of embattled Assin North Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson.

James Gyakye Quayson’s criminal trial has been adjourned because it is unnecessary, according to the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II. This was stated by him during the Professor John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture on Saturday [July 1, 2023] in Sunyani, which was regionalized for Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, and Western North.

According to Collins Owusu Amankwaa, Gyakye Quayson is subject to Ghanaian law just like every other citizen of the nation, hence the Chief’s and certain Ghanaians’ claims lack any basis in law.

He said that we ought to let the country’s legal system decide whether or not the MP is guilty before intervening.

“The Dormaahene is a renowned Chief and judge, therefore his remarks are unusual, but I must admit that I disagree with him on the recommendation to dismiss Quayson’s case,”Collins Owusu Amankwaa exclusively told Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Adwenekasa on Accra-based Original FM 91.9.

Constitutional issues are what we are discussing. Is it true that if there was a murder charge or any other charge, the Chief would demand that the case be dropped?

“Is it true that, as a judge, he would have denied or said something similar had the matter been brought before him?

“It is right for us all to allow the law to run its due process and course. We can ask the question whether the State has a case or not but beyond that, we cannot abuse the process,”he added.
