Health Minister gives 30-day ultimatum for investigation into abandoned patient case

The Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has directed the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to conclude investigations into the alleged abandonment of a patient in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi by the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Winneba, within 30 days.

“I appreciate the prompt action taken by the Ghana Health Service to constitute a committee to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter.

“I am confident that the committee will uncover the facts surrounding this unfortunate incident and make recommendations to prevent such occurrences in the future,” Dr. Okoe Boye said in a letter to the Director-General of the GHS.

He added, “It is the position of the Ministry that this process is concluded within a maximum of 30 days from the date of constitution of the committee and a report submitted to my office.”

The Minister’s directive comes after the GHS constituted a committee to investigate the incident and temporarily relieved the Medical Director of the hospital of his duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
