High Court to decide contempt against K. T. Hammond on October 19

The destiny of Minister for Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond, who has been the victim of a Contempt application, will be decided on October 19, 2023, by the High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh.

James Gyakye Quayson’s lawyer asked the court to hold K. T. Hammond in contempt for making what they deemed to be damaging remarks about the ongoing case.

The parties were instructed to present their written submissions simultaneously by August 31 by the court on Friday, July 28, 2023, which was presided over by Justice Mary Yanzuh.

The Court then scheduled its decision on the contempt motion for October 19, 2023.

In an interview with Oyerepa TV, Mr. Hammond made a comparison between the Quayson issue and that of former lawmaker Adamu Sakande.

“There is something we call precedence at the court. This is the same thing that happened with Adamu Sakande. He came to this House…the same NDC (National Democratic Congress) members were the ones who sacked him from parliament and took him to court. He was imprisoned and he eventually died and was buried. It is the same matter,” he said.

“They are making all kinds of noise about his swearing-in. I prompted the former deputy Attorney General Dominic Ayine to tell the gentleman that we have seen this before in this House. He should leave this House before he would be jailed,” he said.
