Hundreds besiege NPP head office to cheer Bawumia on as he files his nomination forms

Hundreds of Vice President  Dr Mahamudu Bawumia supporters have gathered at the party’s Asylum Down headquarters as he prepares to submit his presidential candidacy forms as he aims to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.

In June this year, former NPP Vice Chairman and National Organiser Fred Oware and Sammy Awuku, respectively, picked forms on behalf of  Dr Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia has held extensive conversations in recent months about his desire to run for the NPP’s flagbearer role.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a meeting with the Majority Caucus in Parliament, the Party’s Council of Elders, as well as other traditional and religious leaders announced his intention to lead the New Patriotic Party.

The NPP leadership opened nominations for the Presidential Primaries on May 26, 2023, and the process will close on June 24, 2023.

Ten candidates have currently taken up nomination forms to run for the NPP’s flagbearer position, including Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kennedy Agyapong, Joe Ghartey, and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong.

The NPP intends to conduct a Special Delegates Congress to choose the top five candidates for the presidency on August 26, 2023.

On December 4, 2023, the top five candidates will then compete for the party’s nomination.

Meanwhile, a new survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics among New Patriotic Party delegates has revealed that the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, leads the former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong for the race to lead the NPP in 2024.

Dr Bawumia leads with 34.8% of the votes, followed by Kyerematen with 27.9% and Kennedy Agyapong, 12.5%.
