The new Managing Director of the Ignite Media Group, Mr. Kayode Akintemi, on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at his office in Accra.
The meeting, among other things, was targeted at how the Ignite Media Group which includes Original TV, Metro TV, and Original FM can properly tell the Ghanaian and African story to the rest of the world.
Mr. Kayode Akintemi was accompanied by a delegation from Ignite Media Group which includes; Nathaniel Laryea, Programmes Manager, Metro TV, Ms. Francisca Kakra Forson, Acting News Editor, Metro TV, and Bright Nana Kwasi Amaning, a newscaster with Metro TV.
Mr. Akintemi said it is extremely important that developmental journalism has got to be the direction that media houses focus and that means that they have to project the citizenry voices to the government and commend the government for excellent work done.
He averred that the media is not part of the opposition and it has got to be a party that is objective, not subjective, and be able to look at issues from high moral ground and be able to appreciate what is being done.
He observed that the media is a partner in progress and the IMG family will prioritise developmental journalism to push the government’s agenda and also put it on its toes.
In his response, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, emphasised on the importance of the media in building a robust country.
He registered his displeasure at how some media organisations use their platforms to denigrate instead of playing its constitutional responsibility as the fourth estate of the realm.
Oppong Nkrumah questioned the role of the media in developing young people, society, and by extension, the country.
He noted that the Ministry of Information will be elated to collaborate with the Ignite Media Group to through its channels get feedback from the people of Ghana in addressing their plight.
