Ignore NDC’s distortions; we’ve turned the corner — Richard Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, says the main opposition NDC has pretended not to see the successes being chalked by the Akufo-Addo government.

He said despite the challenges confronting the global economy, the NPP government has turned the corner and Ghana is on the path to economic recovery.

“The NDC has taken a certain position not to accept reality and to somehow say that Ghana exists as an island and therefore the interconnection between us and the rest of the world that we continue to illustrate to them, which we know, they know, but pretend that we are part of a community of nations, therefore, what happens here impacts others and what happens elsewhere impacts us,” he said on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Thursday, August 3.

“I want to say that indeed we have turned the corner,” Mr. Ahiagbah stated.

Mr. Ahiagbah indicated that the economy the Akufo-Addo government inherited was “declining” and “in free fall” but it turned things around until the dread novel coronavirus disease hit the world.

He also noted that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine negatively impacted the Ghanaian economy but currently all indicators corroborate the government’s claim it has turned the corner.

“The idea we have turned the corner is in consistent with this [referring to the latest World Bank report] report showing the worst will be in 2023 and showing that going forward in 2024, economic performance will pick up from the 3.1% projections in sub-Sahara Africa 3.7 and 3.9% in 2024 and 2025 respectively,” he noted.
