Vociferous Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George has waded into the exchanges between NPP stalwart, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko and the former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo over government’s controversial Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).
Mad. Sophia Akufo has on two occasions joined pensioners holding government bonds to demand total exclusion from government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP). Following her participation in the picketing exercise, the cousin of the president, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has questioned the basics of her actions describing her participation as a big error on her part.
Her participation, according to Gabby, is a clear indication that she lacks understanding of the issues under consideration.
Following the backlash, Mad. Sophia Akufo in a spirited response stressed that she does not have the time to respond to Gabby since he is disturbance.
“I don’t have time for things like that. People like that are not important to me or my life…”, she told journalists on Tuesday.
Commenting on the exchanges on Accra-based TV3, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram tagged the misunderstanding between the personalities as family feud. Irrespective of the personalities involved, Sam George noted that the issue involved is public welfare, public funds which have been mismanaged hence the need for Ghanaians to pay attention to it.
“Under normal circumstances we would have said this ‘ebusua ntɔkwa‘ (family feud), but we can’t leave them because what they’re fighting over is public welfare, public funds, public monies that have been mismanaged”, the MP said.
He added; “and the arrogance with which Gabby is shouting down the Chief Justice who’s raising critical issues about mismanagement of our economy gets me worried.”
It is however unclear the type of familial relationships Sam George is referring to since government officials had in times past rubbished claims that Mad. Sophia Akuffo is related to President Akufo-Addo and his cousin, Gabby Otchere Darko.
