Kwesi Pratt eulogizes COP Kofi Boakye after retirement

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has hailed retired Commissioner of Police (COP), Nathan Kofi Boakye for his exemplary service during his time in office.

Extoling COP Kofi Boakye on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday 5th April 2023,, Mr. Pratt described the achievement as remarkable and worth emulating.

He recounted the significant change the Police Service recorded in the Ashanti Region when Kofi Boakye was at the helm of affairs, indicating that his tenure saw total dominance and a subdue of crime rate in the Ashanti Region.

He touted him as a brave policeman who excelled in hazardous operations and places.

“He was a distinguished policeman, very very [sic] distinguished policeman…he headed the striking force at one time when armed robbery was on the rise and managed to bring armed robbery down completely. So, he’s been posted to all the difficult assignments and he has excelled,” Pratt said.

He praised his involvement in the Special Weapon And Tactics (SWAT) team and described his inclusion as instrumental which has developed the force over the years.

Mr. Pratt expressed sadness over his retirement which he thinks has been abrupt, forcing the Police Service and the nation to miss out on such a vital inclusion to the service, stating further that it was unfair to the devoted workers and the country for letting go people on the basis of age.

“I am quite sad that we’re going to lose his services only on the grounds that he’s 60 years old…and this retiring age is sometimes so unfair, not just to those who are retiring but also to the country as a whole.. I mean after all the training that he’s gone through after all the things that he’s done, he has to retire, only because he’s 60 years.”

The veteran journalist further noted that no better words could describe the outgoing Commissioner of Police, howbeit, urged the nation and the Police Service to learn from him while he’s still alive.

However, he admonished Mr. Kofi Boakye not to let his expertise down but furnish the Police Service whenever he is sorted, sanctioning the adage, “Once a policeman, always a policeman.”

“I think we wish Kofi Boakye the best and whatever he decides to do now, I think it is important that he does not forget that once a policeman, always a policeman. In that, maybe at some point or the other his services may be required in the national interest….you know, he has to offer that services when that request come up.”

Mr. Nathan Kofi Boakye doubled as a Biochemist, a lecturer, a lawyer, and now a retired Commissioner of Police.

He retired on 5th April, 2023.
