Mahama solved dumsor, current administration failed to maintain it – Prof. Fosu-Mensah opined

A communications team member of the National Democratic Congress, Professor Benedicta Yayra Fosu-Mensah says the Nana Akufo-Addo administration has failed to maintain John Dramani Mahama’s effort towards sustainable energy in the country.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Prof. Fosu-Mensah explained that, while former President John Mahama tackled and solved frequent power outages popularly known as “Dumsor” during his tenure, the NPP administration has been ineffective in the energy sector.

She posited that “John Dramani Mahama fixed dumsor so that the recurring of power outages will end in Ghana but sad and the most surprising thing is that, this current administration failed to just maintain what H.E John Dramani Mahama built”

She added that “They ( the government) could not add anything to the energy sector, instead of them also making sure that they expand the infrastructure they did not do that. They also did not make sure that they provided the necessary capital that these energy producers require to produce energy.

According to her, as “we speak today, we owe the Independent Power Producers (IPPs), what this government is doing is what we call the Fire Service Approach. They will not pay the IPPs their monies, when they threaten or cut power supply or generation, then they (government) go and give them something small.”

Ghana is currently facing persistent power outages. While many have described the situation as the return of dumsor, the Electricity Company of Ghana insists it is not dumsor but just a temporary issue.
