Cyber Security Expert Urges ISPs to Pair into Glow 1 Optic Fibre Cable to Alleviate Internet Outage Crisis

In response to the recent internet outage crisis affecting Ghana and other countries due to the breakdown of four undersea fiber optic cables, Cyber Security Expert David Gyedu who also works at the Cyber Defense Communication, recommends that other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) pair into the Glow 1 optic fiber cable, which could provide temporary relief until the underlying issues are resolved.

The outage, which occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, has significantly disrupted daily life for many individuals across the nation.

Gyedu emphasizes that Ghana’s cyber security infrastructure requires greater investment and attention to effectively address such crises in the future.

Gyedu disclosed this on ‘Adwenekasa’ on Accra-based Original FM’s hosted by Kwaku Owusu Adjei(Patoo).

Furthermore, Gyedu highlights the need for advancements in satellite technology to ensure fast and reliable internet connectivity.

He urges stakeholders to prioritize investment in satellite infrastructure to enhance internet access nationwide.
In addressing the media’s role in cyber security awareness, Gyedu stresses the importance of journalists asking pertinent questions to stakeholders. This, he believes, will shed light on the urgency of addressing cybersecurity concerns and foster public understanding of the issue.

With the upcoming December elections in mind, Gyedu warns that failure to resolve the internet outage crisis could have serious implications for electoral processes. As the Electoral Commission relies on internet connectivity for vote collation and communication with voters via media channels, the current situation poses a national crisis.

To alleviate concerns about data security, Gyedu suggests the localization of larger data centers within the country. This measure would help safeguard individuals’ information from potential third-party intrusion.
