Man drowns trying to rescue a teenager at Tubong

A thirty-five-year-old carpenter known as Pag-yenu on Saturday, March 23, met his untimely death in an attempt to rescue a twelve-year-old boy, Fred Burchim who got drowned in the Tubong Dam.

Fred and his peers went to the dam to swim when he was carried away by the water. His peers upon realising they couldn’t rescue him, rushed home to inform the community of the incident. Upon reaching home, the residents communally rushed to the dam to rescue the boy.

Pag-yenu, a local carpenter, went deep into the water but couldn’t return. He also got drowned in addition to the young boy.

Anxiety among residents became high at that moment. A rescue team from the Tempane District Security Council made up of officers from NADMO, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and led by the District Chief Executive for Tempane could not rescue the victims.

The traditional authorities, led by the Kpikpira Chief, Naba Dazuur II, had to organise local fishermen who came in and rescued the bodies.

The bodies were then taken to the cemetery for burial.
