National Cathedral has to be completed – Egyapa Mercer

Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the Ministerial Nominee for Tourism, has emphasized the need of finishing the National Cathedral project and its relevance for the country.

The Member of Parliament for Sekondi stressed the need of seeing the project through to its completion while highlighting the significant public investment already made in it during his Tuesday, March 5th, appearance before the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

Mr. Mercer refuted claims that it is the “most expensive hole in the world,” arguing that these descriptions overlook its larger national significance.

He stressed that national unity was essential to the project’s successful completion and warned against abandoning it after large public expenditure, which he believed to be ineffective.

In addition to stressing the Cathedral’s ability to make a significant contribution to the nation’s development program, Mr. Mercer emphasized the significance of effectively employing state resources for its construction.

“While we may not have unlimited resources, substantial funding has been allocated to the project, and I believe it is imperative for its completion. The notion that it is the world’s most expensive hole is not acceptable. It stands as a national asset in its current state and must be finalized, in my opinion.”
