NDC’s Calls For The Arrest Of Bryan Acheampong Laughable & Comical – Kweku Baako

Veteran journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. has described the National Democratic Congress (NDC) petition to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to arrest Bryan Acheampong over his recent statements as laughable and comical.

The opposition party, through its  Legal Affairs Director, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba presented a petition to the police to arrest the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, for telling his party supporters that “it will never happen that we, the NPP, will stand on a platform to hand over power to the NDC”.

The embattled Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, made the controversial comment when he addressed some supporters of the NPP at Mpraeso during a Unity Walk in the Easter period.

The Minister cautioned that “if the NDC dares to use threats, violence and foolishness in the 2024 election, we will let them know we have the men. We will show them that we have the men”.

But the Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Kweku Baako is of the opinion that “those inviting the Police for investigations and possible charges and so forth, the whole thing is laughable and comical”.

Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM on Wednesday, Mr. Baako asked host Kwami Sefa Kayi if Bryan Acheampong made any comment to say the NPP won’t hand over power to the NDC if the Electoral Commission declares the opposition party winner of the 2024 elections.

“That was key. I was looking for that. I was actually looking for that but it wasn’t there. It was missing. It was missing because it wasn’t said”, he replied.

He wondered if what the Minister said was a breach of the constitution, stressing “anything outside the constitutional framework is potentially treasonable. So, I don’t get the understanding that Bryan Acheampong was saying that ‘come what may if we lose the elections, we won’t hand over’, rather I could hear him suggesting that if we address our challenges and difficulties in such a manner, it will enhance our chances. That’s my understanding”.
