Nigerian Journalist lauds INEC for improving electoral operations

A Nigerian Journalist and Political Analyst, Comrade Martin, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the good work done in the build-up to the nation’s general election.

He stated emphatically that the upcoming election will determine the future of Africa’s most populous nation.

Comrade Martin, speaking to Metro TV’s Winston Tackie in an interview gave thumps up to the INEC for making the preparations for the election much easier.

He explained that in previous years there have been issues with the collection of voter’s cards, citizens finding it difficult to identify their polling stations and others not knowing how to vote.

However, INEC has developed an online platform to help eligible voters with the identification of their polling units in each state.

This platform has been running for the past 3 to 4 weeks, Comrade Martin reveals.

The election, due to take place on Saturday 25 February 2023 has a total of 18 candidates campaigning for the top job. Only three have a realistic chance of winning, according to opinion polls.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 70, standing for the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) party.  Atiku Abubakar, 76, running on behalf of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Peter Obi, 61, hopes to break up the two-party system which has dominated Nigeria since the end of military rule in 1999 and is running for the little-known Labour Party.

The convention suggests a candidate from one of the two main parties will win – Mr. Atiku or Mr. Tinubu. But Mr. Obi’s supporters are hoping he can spring a surprise if they can mobilize the large youth vote to back him.

As part of the anticipation towards the election starting at 10:30 am tomorrow, citizens are traveling to their various polling unit towns. Voting for the right person is on the minds of the Nigerian citizens as they believe that will bring a change to the country, the neighboring country, and also West Africa.
