NPP mourns John Kumah, directs party flags to fly at half-mast

Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejisu Constituency, passed away tragically, leaving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in great sadness.

The unexpected death of Kumah on March 7, 2024, shocked the country and caused deep grief among and outside of the political community.

As a teenager, Mr. Kumah was elected as a school prefect at Opoku Ware School, which was a significant beginning to his political career.

His vital action and unshakable dedication to the NPP were demonstrated by his crucial involvement in founding the Young Patriots, a youth organization that passionately promoted the Party’s ideals from 2009 until 2016.

During President Akufo-Addo’s first term, Hon. Kumah was named as the National Entrepreneurial and Innovation Programme’s (NEIP) inaugural Chief Executive Officer, a recognition of his commercial acumen and entrepreneurial skill.

His outstanding leadership at NEIP made it possible for him to be appointed Deputy Minister for Finance in 2021, a position he held until his untimely death.

The NPP and Ghana as a whole are greatly impacted by his legacy of toil and devotion to national development.

The NPP, in recognition of Hon. Kumah’s invaluable contributions and in solemn remembrance of his service, extends heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, particularly his wife and children, as well as the people of Ejisu for their loss.

The NPP has ordered all of its flags to be flown at half-mast for the next seven days in observance of his memory and lasting legacy.

The New Patriotic Party’s general secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stressed the great influence and legacy of Hon. John Ampontuah Kumah and urged all Party members to consider his commitment to the country and the NPP’s values during this time of grief.
