NPP picks flagbearer today

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Saturday, November 4, vote to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

Over 200,000 party delegates are expected to partake in the election across 275 constituencies in the 16 regions.

Members of Parliament, Municipal and District Chief Executives, ministers and their deputies, NPP founding members, National Council members, patrons, and senior council members are among the delegates that make up the Electoral College.

The remaining individuals include members of Tescon, the party’s tertiary students’ wing, as well as regional party officers, constituency officers, patrons, and elders, as well as coordinators of electoral areas, polling station executives, and abroad branches.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

Several polls have tipped Dr. Bawumia to win. They also placed Kennedy Agyapong as the runner-up.

The contestants were compelled to sign an undertaking not to resign from the party in case any of them lost.

On the ballot paper, Kennedy Agyapong will be at the top, followed by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the second slot.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimo, will be in the third and fourth slots, respectively.
