NPP Primaries: Deputy Health Minister loses seat, Salaga North MP retained

The Deputy Minister for Health and the incumbent Member of parliament for the Daboya Mankarigu Constituency in the Savannah region Alhaji Mahama Asei Seini lost the NPP parliamentary primaries to the Deputy CEO of Minerals Commission Samuel Yeyu Atika in the Saturday polls.

Mahama Asei Seini lost to the Deputy CEO of the Minerals Commission after a kin contest characterized with allegations of votes buying.

Addressing the rank and file of the party after the declaration of results, Samuel Atika called for unity and decorum in the party ahead of the 2024 December general election.

He described Mahama as a matured person and expressed his readiness to work with him to forge better times for the constituency.

He also indicated his preparedness to shoulder the broader challenges facing the constituency in terms of deplorable roads, deteriorating health among others.

Samuel Atika garnered 211 votes out of the total votes cast of 411 while his opponent, who is the seating MP had one hundred and ninety six votes (196).

Four ballots were rejected after general consensus by agents of the two aspirants and EC officials.

Meanwhile, at the Salaga North Constituency, Abdallah Alhassan Iddi defeated his opponent Tahiru Fuseini to retain his seat.

He polled two hundred and twelve votes (212) and his opponent had sixty seven (67). One ballot was rejected.
