Politics Is Not About Sharing Money – Gyakye Quayson Stings NPP

Member of Parliament-Elect for the Assin North Constituency, James Gyakye Quayson has chastised the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for attempting to influence the by-election through vote buying.

Prior to and during the by-election, there were numerous allegations by the opposition NDC against the NPP for sharing monies and other goodies in order to buy their votes.

The accusation was however vehemently denied by the NPP.

Despite the back-and-forth accusations, James Gyakye Quayson recorded a landslide victory polling 17,245 votes representing 57.56 percent of the total valid votes cast to beat Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).

Charles Opoku polled 12,630 votes representing 42.15 percent of the total votes cast while the LPG’s Bernice Enyonam Sefenu polled 87 votes representing 0.29%.

Delivering his acceptance speech, James Gyakye Quayson slammed the NPP for attempting to buy the conscience of the people through monies and goodies sharing.

He lectured that Politics and Democracy are not about money and goodies sharing but development adding that he will work assiduously to ensure that the constituents of Assin North receive their fair share of the national cake.

We will pursue a good direction of justice and also to realize that politics is not about sharing money to people to get a vote. Democracy is about development, and we are going to set this trend along to make sure that people who are represented get a first share of the national cake and how to develop their communities,” James Gyakye Quayson announced.
