Revenue generation woefully inadequate to continue stalled projects — Titus-Glover

A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, says Ghana is unable to fix its roads because most revenue generated has been used for debt servicing.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday morning, the former Member of Parliament said revenue generation is inadequate to cater for road construction and other projects.

“At one time when the Finance Minister was reporting to the house, he reported that 70% of our domestic revenue was in debt servicing. It means the other 30% is shared between other capital expenditure and goods and services and then workers’ compensation. It clearly means our revenue generation is woefully inadequate to be able to meet certain commitments,” he said

He also suggested that Ghana’s gold business can be maximized to give financial relief to some stalled projects.

“Again, on the issue about the largest producer of gold in Africa and the fact that all these golds are exported out and the returns we are getting out of it is just a fraction, so there is a need to look at the legal regime that made these arrangements,” he noted.
