Sam Pee Yalley slams ‘dormant’ Council of State

President for NDC Professionals Forum, Sam Pee Yalley, has criticized the Council of State for remaining unconcerned while the impasse between the legislature and the executive rages on.

Sam Pee Yalley wondered why in the midst of the chaos, the body whose mandate it is to advice the president, remains conspicuously silent, raising questions about its effectiveness in times of crisis, questioning if the Council of State did not gather any intelligence on the impasse.

“As a country, this is the time we need leadership.
Must the Council of State, allow this simple impasse to travel this far? The situation with the potential to create impasse between the legislature and executive, must not be allowed to travel for 24hrs. What’s their intelligence?”

“By now the Council of State would have called the two sides and say hold on, because it’s now polarising the country. the more.”

The impasse between the legislature and executive branches has thrown the nation into confusion, with calls from, for urgent intervention.

The standoff, which has now stretched into the 4th day, has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters.

Sam Pee Yaleh condemned the presidency’s actions as unnecessary and detrimental to the nation’s stability.

He argued that with investors wary of entering a country gripped by political uncertainty, if any investor being chased by the government or its agencies will be willing to put their money in Ghana, especially with the ongoing fracas and power struggle between Parliament and the presidency.

“A country that is seeking investors to come and do business here, which investor will come to a country when everyday Parliament and the presidency is in trouble?” he lamented on Metro TV’s flagship current affairs program, Good Morning Ghana show on Friday, March 22, 2024.

Sam Pee Yalley expressed regret and shock over the decision by the Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, to escalate the situation by issuing a legal response to the Speaker of Parliament, which he said, has only added fuel to the fire.

He noted that instead of engaging in a public exchange, the AG should have sought private dialogue to address any concerns.

“Why is it that the Attorney General of a country write with such legal Vernon, to prove that he knows the law or what?” he quizzed “He was writing to the Speaker of the Parliament, who himself is a lawyer, a senior lawyer to you.”

“The AG should have gone to the Speaker to point the areas he thinks the speaker overlooked, instead of writing a response. I find the whole thing bizarre, unnecessary and time wasting and at the end the country will suffer,” Sam Pee Yalley opined.
