Sheer waste of public funds – Kwesi Pratt blasts BoG over the advertisement of honorary awards in newspapers

A leading member of the Fourth Estate of the Realm Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has lashed out at the Bank of Ghana, for what he describes as wasting public funds to advertise their honor from the President in two newspapers, the Daily Graphic and the Ghanaian Times.

Mr. Pratt argues that paying an exorbitant amount to publish an honorary from the President was unnecessary.

“The deliberate wastage of public funds…Bank of Ghana is buying space in Graphic and other newspapers to thank the President for honoring them,” he said when he appeared on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

According to Mr. Pratt, the Bank of Ghana’s action is a deliberate and blatant waste of public resources which isn’t the first of its kind, adding that they could have released a presser that could have found itself topping the front pages of newspapers instead.

He also stated that some other state institutions usually buy space from expensive newspapers and celebrate birthdays, send goodwill to the president and among others.

Mr. Pratt, however, admonished institutions to desist from that culture of wastage and protect the nation’s scarce resources.

The Bank of Ghana received an honorary for their role in the fight against Covid-19 during the National Honours and Awards on Tuesday night at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The event saw an award session where several institutions and individuals were honored for their active participation in the fight against Covid-19 among other areas towards national development.
