Kwesi Pratt slams Ghana Bar Association over their silence on Ashaiman brutality

Ace Journalist and Editor-in-Chief of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr., has taken a swipe at the Ghana Bar Association over their deafening silence on the raid by the military in Ashaiman following the murder of their colleague in the town.

Commenting on the incident on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, he stated that the failure of the Ghana Bar Association to publicly address the issue rather aggravates the situation, arguing that the issue is a significant human rights issue yet no life has been breathed into the issue since it broke out.

“This is purely a matter of human rights and respect for the constitutional order and yet the Ghana Bar Association is mute. If the Ghana Bar Association does not speak to violations of law and the Constitution in this brazing matter, who should be speaking about it?”

Mr. Pratt also suggested that the action from the military was perhaps to send a notice to people for them to be feared as they did in time past.

Again, he stated that it was a wrong conclusion from the military to assume that the deceased officer was killed by the people of Ashaiman which could be a possible error,  taking a swipe at communicators who have applauded actions from the military on the residents and ruled it as unfortunate and describes the situation as an impunity of bizarreness.

Kwesi Pratt went on to ask Ghanaians to be discerning on the press statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) adding that the document released had a scanned signature making it questionable.

He also commended the Inspector General of Police, Akuffo Dampare, and his team for their show of professionalism in discharging their duties over the raid in Ashaiman.

He stated that the IGP and his team rather than resorting to violence opted for a show of expertise and professionalism as compared to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF)

Over 6 suspects have been arrested and standing trial in line with the murder of Military Trooper Imoro Sheriff.
