SML-GRA deal fits into the create, loot and share theory – Suhuyini

Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini says the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority deal is a classic case of create, loot, and share.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, the Tamale North lawmaker emphasized that the deal does not augur well especially when no evidence that SML saved the government money.

“The initial report was that SML saved the government about 3bn and got 1bn, can you even imagine that, what kind of contract arrangement is that? And yet you cannot even show evidence of how you saved the government 3bn, there’s nothing to show.”

“The interesting part is the leadership of this company, the man was the technical advisor to the GRA boss, and immediately after this company was set up, he resigned from his post and became General Manager of SML. The whole story surrounding these fit into that phrase that was used some time ago, create, loot, share, it’s a classical case of create loot, share” he said

However, Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) has emphasised the positive impact of its contract with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on state revenue. SML asserts that its involvement has significantly reduced revenue leakage in the downstream sector, resulting in increased revenue for the state.

Meanwhile, the Technical Advisor at the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Tia Kabiru Mahama says while the President has affirmed that the contract is irregular, it has not been established that both entities have been engaged in corrupt deals.

“We have an established fact that someone has breached our procurement laws, the penal consequences associated with that breach must be applied, the government as a whole has no issue about that and anyone raising that issue is genuine but prosecution of same will have to be based on the cogency and the veritable nature of the facts,” says Dr. Kabiru
