SOCO Projects steadily progressing in Garu and Tempane Districts

The Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Projects, which is currently ongoing in some parts of the country is taking a good shape in the Garu and Tempane Districts.

Some of the projects which include class room blocks, sanitary facilities, information centres, market stalls are seeing a significant improvement and progress.

At Sumaduri, close to the Garu district assembly edifice, is the Garu District Health Management Team (DHMT) structure which is at a completion stage. The structure is geared at accommodating all health management staff of the District.

Other projects in the area include community information centres at Denugu, Worikambo, Dabila and other areas.

In the Tempane District, a sanitary facility with a borehole at the Tubong market is almost on completion. The contractor says the project would have been completed if not the delay in releasing funds.

Another project for a school under trees in the same Tempane district, which is a three unit class room block is also at the final stage. The contractor indicates that, for the delay in getting funds from project handlers, the school would’ve been completed by now and handed over to school authorities.

The SOCO Project is contributing to the prevention of conflict spillover from the sahelian countries by improving the social and economic resilience of the targeted Northern Regions in the Gulf of Guinea countries (Ghana Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Togo) .

In Ghana, the SOCO Project is being implemented in six (6) regions in the northern parts of Ghana – namely the Northern, Upper East, Upper West, North East, Savannah and Oti Regions. Forty-eight (48) MMDAs are benefitting from the project.
