Stop Spending Our Monies On National Cathedral; Convert It To A Hospital – TUC To Akufo-Addo

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has reiterated its stance that President Akufo-Addo’s National Cathedral Project is a waste of the country’s resources.

According to the General Secretary of the TUC, although it is the President’s vision to construct a Notre Dame-like edifice in Ghana, the country does not need such a facility considering the prevailing economic conditions.

Speaking at the 2023 National May Celebration held in Bolgatanga, Dr. Yaw Baah stressed that the project is a waste of the country’s scarce resources which should not be entertained.

He, therefore, suggested that government must consider converting the project into a national hospital. This, Dr. Yaw Baah believes will be more useful to the country.

“We have to change the situation ourselves as Ghanaians. We believe strongly that government can lead us out of this crisis, and the government can do so by cutting expenditure on non-essentials including the need to stop spending our hard-earned revenue on a national cathedral. The president has always said he wants to create another Notre Dame in Ghana so we can attract a lot of visitors, but we disagree. In fact, comrades, it will be better to convert the project into a national hospital,” the General Secretary of TUC insisted.

He further called on President Akufo-Addo to reduce the size of his government in the midst of the financial difficulties of the country.

“Mr. President you can also reduce the size of your government. Ghana has too many ministers and deputy ministers,” he added.
