Three fishermen escape death at Assin Andoe

Three fishermen are battling for their lives after they were severely brutalized by irate youth members from Assin Andoe and Besease in the Assin South District of the Central Region over a false claim that they had human heads.

The three who went on a fishing expedition were attacked by some members of the two communities when an individual sounded a false alarm in the communities that they had beheaded two persons.

The three victims namely; Kojo Brefo, Yakubu Ampiah, and “Liefo” from Assin Ochiso went on a fishing expedition in River Ochi between Assin Andoe and Assin Besease.

But events turned sour when an individual reported in the Assin Besease community that the trio had in their possession a sack suspected to be containing two human heads.

The individual who is yet to be identified also peddled that the victims had killed some children and had sneaked into a bush and left their vehicle behind.

Alarmed by the report angry mobs from Besease and Andoe mobilized to pursue the supposed murderers.

The charged mob partially destroyed a Hyundai Elantra salon car with registration GN-7627-13 which belonged to the victims and parked by the roadside some few meters from the River Ochi.

They proceeded to arrest the victims near the river while fishing and subjected them to severe beatings with sticks, clubs, and other offensive weapons in an attempt to lynch them.

It was the timely intervention by heavily armed police officers from the Assin South District Police Command that saved the victims.

The police, however, had a tough time rescuing the victims as the Head of the Assin South District Police Intelligence Taskforce, Inspector Maxwel Alale who led the team even sustained some minor injuries as the mob unleashed their anger on him too.

Consequently, the human heads that the people allegedly were contained in the sack, turned out to be fishing nets and stones when the police opened them.

The People in the Assin enclave are wide awake and alert due to the recent ritual murder cases recorded in the area in which some body parts of the victims were removed.

Police have, however, assured to maximize protection while also admonishing residents to be calm and desist from sharing false information as well as engaging in mob actions.
