Upper East: Nine Shot Dead By Unknown Assailants In Pusiga

About nine people have been allegedly shot dead in an attack in the Upper East Region.

According to reports, the unidentified gunmen attacked two buses in Pusiga after blocking the buses that were on their way from Bawku to Cinkaasi in Togo.

The attack is said to have occurred on Thursday morning when heavily armed men ambushed a convoy of police personnel who were escorting the traders on their journey to Togo.

The incident occurred at the Gbewaa College of Education police barrier where the assailants opened fire on the buses.

No police official was hurt their vehicles have been seriously damaged.

The identities of the deceased currently remain unknown as the police are yet to issue a statement on the incident however sources say the deceased are six women and three men.

The motive for the attack is unknown, but it comes amid a period of tension in the Upper East Region. There have been several clashes between ethnic groups in the region in recent months.

The security agencies are currently at the scene to assess the situation.

The injured persons have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment while the deceased have been moved to a morgue.
