Victims of Tamale District Court shooting call for action against police officers

Residents of Tamale are calling for action to be taken against the police for shooting indiscriminately at protesters at the premises of Tamale District Court on Monday where over a dozen people sustained various degrees of injuries.

Over 14 people, including police officers, were wounded at the Tamale District Court when police opened fire at protesters in the early hours of yesterday in Tamale, the Northern regional capital.

The protest was triggered by the suspicion that a man standing trial over the sales of illicit drugs in the region, was to be freed by the court.

The victims told Metro TV in an interview that the police acted unprofessionally by shooting indiscriminately into the protesters.

They believe the police are supposed to liaise with residents and safeguard them, not oppress and harass them.

The victims, therefore, want the police officers to face the music.
