[Video] Ursula Owusu Goes Berserk In Parliament Over Anti-LGBTQ+ Debate

There was drama on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday as the House debated the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Bill 2021, also known as the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.

The Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament presented the bill in the plenary session for debate.

As the debate ensued, the proceedings came to a halt as the Deputy Speaker, Andrew Owusu Asiamah intervened requesting that the MP for Tamale Central, Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed withdraw a statement made regarding the MP for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu Ekuful.

The MP for Tamale Central however argued that he does not see the need to withdraw any statement since his comment was not official and moreover, he did not address it in the microphone.

He, therefore, challenged the Deputy Speaker’s request claiming it is not in accordance with the Constitution and the Standing Orders of the House.

In the midst of the exchanges, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson sided with the speaker acknowledging that the Hon. Murtala had made unparliamentary statements calling on him to retract and apologize.

A visibly infuriated Ursula Owusu later took the floor and expressed her anger at the comment that she is a practitioner of LGBTQ+.

“Mr. Speaker, I sat here and repeatedly heard Murtala refer to me as an LGBTQ+ practitioner to the hearing of everyone in this House. I sat here and repeatedly heard him. When you haven’t seen me have sex with your wife, daughter or mother you sit there and refer to me in those,” the angered Minister for Communication and Digitalization vented.
