A Communication Team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Beatrice Annan, is yet to come to terms with the central bank’s decision to print money in excess of the threshold for the Ghana government to aid in its “reckless expenditure”.

Speaking on Metro TV’s flagship program, Good Morning Ghana, the NDC Communicator posited that chunks of monies in the system are not in circulation because some politicians and some Ghanaians are hoarding it in their “bedrooms” of which the central bank is aware of, hence the decision to print more money was ill-informed.

“The bank of Ghana’s own monetary policy committee in their last release said we have almost about GHS35 billion out of the traditional banking system, so it means that these are monies which are unbanked, so if you are a serious government and you know that when you print money, most of these monies go into the unbanked system, which means that people keep them in their homes, why go ahead and recklessly print in excess of GHS80 billion for government to finance its expenditure. What are you seeking to cure?” she quizzed.

Beatrice Annan stated that the Bank of Ghana in its quest to sponsor the profligacy of the government has caused irreparable havoc.

“The Bank of Ghana is as though they are helping you but are the same people destroying you. BoG kept printing money in way excess of the threshold and they kept going to monetary policy meetings and they kept increasing the interest rate with the aim of reducing inflation, who does that? Today by this singular act of the Bank of Ghana, we are told that an excess of 850,000 people have been pushed down into poverty” she said.
