The President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs and king of the Gonjaland Kingdom, Yagbonwura Jira Bikunuto Soale Jewu I, has enskinned the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the Konokonwulewura (Unity Chief) of the Gonjaland Traditional Council on Tuesday, November 22, 2023.
Jira Yagbonwura Bikunuto Jewu Soale I enskinned the Vice President who is also the NPP flagbearer with the revered chieftaincy title when he called on him at the palace in Damongo as part of his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Savannah Region.
The King and Overlord of the Gonjaland Traditional Council Jira Yagbonwura Bikunuto I applauded Dr. Bawumia for his visit and assured him of his support before, during, and after the December 2024 General elections.
He was enskinned also for his dedication to maintaining peace between the people of Mampruguland and Gonjaland.
Speaking to the chiefs and people of the Savannah region, His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said his visit was to express appreciation to the king and people for their prayers prior to the November 4th NPP Presidential Primaries.
” You said you were going to pray for me and that I should know that you are behind me. And so I went with confidence to pick up my nomination forms to contest for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party”
“Jira your prayers were answered and on the 4th of November the New Patriotic Party delegates elected me to be the flagbearer and leader of the party,” he said.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia pledged to renovate the Jakpa Palace to befit the status of the king.
“Jira my happiness today knows no bounds. I’m so happy and today and I want to make sure that we put it in history that I want to give you a gift in celebration of my victory in this election. I know I visited you when you were Tulwewura and now you are here and this is not your final palace. Your palace awaits you and I want to tell you that as a son, I’m going to offer to renovate the whole palace for you.”
The Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency, who also doubles as the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor implores the electorates to vote massively for Dr. Bawumia for his continued assistance to the region since 2017.
“You’re not coming for the North, you’re coming for the South, you’re coming for all Ghanaians Gonjas inclusive and that by the grace of the Almighty God and with the blessings of Yagbonwura and with the blessings of the skins of Jakpa God willing on the 7 th of January when you become president of Ghana, you will be president for all the people of Ghana and in particular you will be a dedicated and devoted son of Yagbonwura Bikunuto and you will be a servant of the people of Savannah Region.”
The title is the first of its kind in the council.
The Vice President toured the region together with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, the Deputy Minister for Health, the National Chairman of the party, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, the Northern Regional Chairman, and the Savannah Regional Chairman among others.
