The Member of Parliament for the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency and the entire Jinapor family have inaugurated the Jinapor II Astroturf at Buipe in the Central Gonja District with a call for unity and encouragement of diversity among the people in the area.
According to John Abdulai Jinapor, sports is a peaceful discipline and should not lead to violence among people.
The 100-seater Buipewura Jinapor II Astroturf was constructed by the family of the Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II to promote sports and unearth new football talents in the Buipe Traditional Council.
The astroturf was named after the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Council for his dedication and commitment to the developmental needs of his subjects.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the former Energy Minister stated that the project started this year when the Chief of Buipe and his father, his Royal Majesty Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II appealed to his children to provide an astroturf for the Buipe Traditional Council.
He said upon his request, the family led by Prof Ahmed Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor, himself and the entire family started the project until completion to promote sports.
He cautioned the residents to make good use of the facility but urged the committee in charge of its maintenance to do their best to prolong its life span.
For his part, the President of the Ghana Football Association for Northern, Savannah & North East Regions, Alhaji Abu Hassan Rhizo commended the Buipewura for his leadership qualities and foresight for his subjects which led to the completion of the sporting facility.
He expressed optimism that the facility will go a long way to advance sports in the district and region as a whole.
Alhaji Abu Hassan indicated that for the pitch to host bigger competitions like division one matches , there is the need for a dressing room and appealed to them for it to be added to the facility.
Other sporting disciplines like Volleyball pitches, table tennis among others would be added to the Buipewura Jinapor II Astroturf to make it a center of excellence for sports across the Central Gonja district.
