26-year-old fake doctor busted at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital

The security at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi arrested a 26-year-old man for impersonating a doctor on September 4, 2023.

The accused, William Cyril Cohen, was seen prowling around the hospital, pretending to be a doctor of medicine in order to admit patients and give medications.

When the director of nursing confronted the suspect during her usual routine checks, he allegedly became agitated and attempted to flee, but was captured by hospital security.

William Cohen, in a video making rounds on social media, is seen wearing a ward uniform while being taken by hospital security, who eventually handed him over to police.

Speaking to Bridget Otoo on News Night on Metro TV, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Kwame Frimpong debunked media reports that the suspect was arrested while attending to a patient.

“No, it was on a walkway. Komfo Anokye [Hospital] has a certain system that makes it impossible for who is not part of us to attend to a patient. We run a team-based system where all the team members are known to each other. Remember we are a teaching institution so most of the people we employ are virtually our own product. So before you even join the hospital we will have known you, and most teams are made up of trainees and their former students. Patients are allocated to teams not individuals,” he explained.

Mr. Frimpong noted that the systems employed by the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are robust and cannot be easily tampered with.
