5 managers arrested over tax evasion

The Ghana Revenue Authority taskforce has arrested seven managers of companies for evading taxes under the electronic Value Added Tax system.

The managers who are dealers in food commodities, hardware and gaming centers were found to have contravened the country’s tax laws.

To support the covid-19 expenditure, the government introduced a one percent increase in the value added tax flat rate.

The Ghana Revenue Authority took its tax enforcement exercise to the door post of some shops and companies who is not issuing VAT to customers on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

The head of Accra Central Enforcement Unit of GRA, Joseph Annan, addressing the press after the exercise indicated that the authority as part of a nationwide supervision would continue to embark on unannounced swoops on shopping centers and manufacturing companies across the country to apprehend culprits evading tax.

While some were arrested for non-E-VAT invoices others were arrested for expired dispensation certificates.

The affected shops included the new chapter enterprise, FAWAS Africa commodities limited, Continental hardware suppliers limited, Madagastar mE-sports Arena, COFKANS company limited and TSF hamburger at EU Chinatown.
