82 police officers sue IGP, two others over promotion

Some eighty-two (82) officers of the Ghana Police Service have filed lawsuits against the Attorney General, the Ghana Police Service, and the Inspector General of Police for the police service’s failure to promote them.

In a writ available to Metro TV, the 82 police officers are accusing the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the two others of acting arbitrarily and unfairly.

According to the police officers, the study leave with pay policy of the service entitles them to promotions after their studies are over, but even several months after completing their studies, they have not yet received a promotion.

“All the Plaintiffs applied for the 2017/2018 Academic Year Study Leave with pay programme for Tertiary Courses ranging between two (2) to four (4) years.

“Each and every Plaintiff having qualified were selected and made to enter into the requisite Bond to serve the Police Service upon completion of their various courses for at least Five (5) years upon condition that the Bond would be entreated when breached.”
