The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has pledged to construct stadia and recreational centers for all six newly-created regions when elected in the December 7 general elections.

The former president and NDC flagbearer made this pledge during the 48th annual Gonjaland Youth Association Congress at Damongo in the Savannah Region on Saturday.

The congress is marked under the theme:
The occasion was marked the theme: Celebrating Our Culture And Tradition Through Unity For Rapid Socio Economic Development In Gonjaland.

Addressing the chiefs and people of the kingdom, the flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama bemoaned the lack of adequate infrastructural development in the new regions and promised to build higher institutions of learning as well as sports stadia for all the six regions.

Mr. Mahama also vowed to provide pipe borne water to the Savannnah regional capital to end the decades long scarcity of water.

Earlier on Friday, the former president cut sod for the construction of a new palace for the king and president of the Savannah regional House of Chiefs Jira Yagbonwura Bekunutu Jewu Soale I.

The new palace will resonate with the historical designs of Timbuktu where the Gonjas etymologically hail from.

The new palace will have a place for the king, a place for his households, a multi purpose hall for all proceedings and a museum to showcase historical artifacts in the kingdom.

The congress brought together traditional rulers, the president, former president, ministers of state and political leaders, and people from all walks of life.
