9-member committee formed to investigate Anto-Aboso quarry site explosion

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah has inaugurated a 9-member committee to investigate circumstances which led to the explosion at a quarry site at Anto Aboso in the Shama District of Western Region.

The 9 member committee which was set up by the Western Regional Cordinating Council, is expected to be chaired by the Regional Cordinating Director.

Other members of the committee includes, the Minerals Commission, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Health Service,Environmental Protection Agency, NADMO Shama, Works Engineer Shama, and the Assembly Member for the affected area.

The committee has been given 3 weeks to present its full report.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi has confirmed that STA-Addams Enterprise was operating illegally.

According to him, officials from the Commission had earlier stopped them from operation but went behind authorities to operate.

He made the statement after touring the explosion site.
