An aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency in the Western Region, Wilberforce Essien, has assured his constituents of his commitment to promoting the growth and development of agriculture and mining in the constituency.
He said the constituency has more than enough human and natural resources to grow its local economy for the benefit of the people
Speaking in an interview with metronewsonline.com after filing his nomination papers to contest for the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency seat over the weekend, the aspirant, gave assurance to the constituents in the mining area, that he would deliver the constituency to the NDC in the 2024 general elections.
“For any community to develop, first of all, the community must identify resource availability and how to tap into this. You must explore and utilize the resources for the benefit of the community members.
“In Tarkwa for instance, we are blessed that God has given us fertile land for agricultural purposes. Again, we have mineral resources. These two areas of economic activities, should transform our local economy and improve development in our communities as well as create jobs. Unfortunately, it would have to take a leader who is prepared to drive an agenda capable of protecting the larger interest of communities.
I am prepared to offer selfless leadership, and therefore, would unite Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency for us to achieve this goal of transforming our local economy with these crucial economic activities our land is blessed with,” he said.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) opened nominations in 18 constituencies where elections were put on hold due to some differences which have now been resolved on Tuesday, August 1, 2023,
As the largest opposition party, NDC held the final leg of its internal polls on May 13, 2023 across the country to elect the flag bearer John Dramani Mahama and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 general elections.
The party, however had to postpone elections in 18 specific constituencies across the country due to unresolved issues.
It included Amenfi East, Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira and Tarkwa Nsuaem constituencies in Western Region.
These three constituencies in the Region, for instance had peculiar cases and had to be resolved by the party’s leadership before the nominations were opened.
Some of the candidates who picked nomination forms and filed over the weekend touted their chances of winning the primaries and the national elections.
Wilberforce Essien, is one of the aspirants who filed to contest for Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency and believes, he has the right character, vision and experience to lead the constituency
However, he must first win the internal primaries in the NDC before using the nod secured to contest for the Tarkwa Nsuaem seat on the ticket of NDC during the 2024 general elections
