‘Galamsey queen’ Aisha Huang Sentenced To 4 Years 6 Months In Prison, Fined GHC 48,000

Renowned illegal miner Aisha Huang was found guilty of mining without a license and sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

Additionally, she received a GH¢48, 000 fine from the court.

The accused was declared guilty by the judge after weighing the arguments made by the prosecution and defense. On similar allegations, the accused was previously released.

The statute under which she was being prosecuted was an antiquated judicial system with a five-year maximum term, hence the judge could only impose a four-year sentence.

Aisha Huang was charged with being deeply involved in Galamsey affairs, particularly in the Ashanti Region. In 2018, the A-G decided to end her trial in which she was charged with small-scale mining without a license, leading to her first detention and deportation from the nation.

She allegedly entered the country covertly to partake in the same actions for which she was deported, nevertheless.
