Akufo-Addo, Bawumia  are collaborators and promoters of the ‘galamsey trade’ — NDC

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of encouraging illegal mining which has destroyed water bodies across the country.

According to the NDC, the First and Second Gentlemen of the Land are active collaborators and promoters of the menace, hence the lack of action to prevent same.

Speaking during the Monday, October 16, 2023, edition of the Moment of Truth series, the National Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi said the government is shielding its officials involved in the canker.

“Like many environmentalists and patriotic voices, the NDC is deeply worried and appalled by the extent to which President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Bawumia have gone to encourage and condone the destruction of Ghana’s environment.”

The NDC Communicator also accused Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame of protecting persons engaged in galamsey and called for his resignation.

“They have been active collaborators and promoters of the ‘galamsey trade’.  Their actions through their Attorney-General to continuously protect corrupt officials of the ruling NPP and the government, speak loudly. Posterity will never forgive them,” he said.
