Akufo Addo’s gov’t is full of all talk, no action – Sammy Gyamfi

Akufo Addo’s gov’t is full of all talk, no action – Sammy Gyamfi

National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi, has charged the New Patriotic Party government under Akufo-Addo to be honest when reporting the sufferings of Ghanaians.

According to him, several mouthwatering promises the government made have not been realized despite being in power since 2016.

Recounting the many promises the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia-led government made to Ghanaians prior to assuming office, Sammy Gyamfi indicated that promising to do something is different from taking an action and realizing the promise as actions and words are not the same, “particularly for this dishonest, wasteful and reckless Akuffo Addo-Bawumia government”

This came as a counter-statement to the CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, Dr. Okoe Boye’s claim that the Country’s economy was on the verge of recovering.

“Don’t think that things are getting better. Things are getting worse,” Sammy Gyamfi said.

He charged his fellow panelist, to be honest and candid when discussing issues relating to the sufferings and challenges of the citizens in the country.

The World Bank has indicated in its latest report that high inflation rates in 2022 pushed an estimated 850,000 Ghanaians into poverty.

According to the analysis, the catastrophic economic crisis in 2022, defined by increasing inflation rates, will have terrible effects for the country’s food security and poverty.

It also revealed that year-on-year inflation increased from 14% to a whopping 54% between January and December, the highest amount since the early 2000s.

“Simulations conducted during this period revealed alarming results, showing that approximately 850,000 Ghanaians were pushed into poverty solely due to the escalating prices in 2022. For these individuals and families, temporary declines in incomes and consumption became entrenched, leading to a situation where poverty became entrenched and, in some cases, even permanent. The situation worsened when it came to food security,” the World Bank report read in part.

“Another disturbing disclosure was that the number of food-insecure Ghanaians surged from 560,000 in the last quarter of 2021 to a staggering 823,000 during the same period in 2022. As food prices continued to climb, a significant portion of the population struggled to afford sufficient food to meet their dietary needs, let alone maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.”
