Alan Kyerematen says Ghana needs a Christ-like leader, not merely a Christian

A flagbearer hopeful for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP  Alan John Kwadwo  Kyerematen believes Ghana needs a leader who upholds the Christian faith in order for it to make any substantial advancements in its development process.

Mr. Kyerematen asserts that the nation needs a leader who is willing to govern like Jesus Christ, the Lord, and Savior of Christians, rather than someone who is merely a Christian by name.

Speaking at the Parliament Chapel International (PCI)’s ‘Mpaebo Kesie’ prayer session on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Mr Kyeremateng stated that it was for this reason that he began his presidential campaign with a call to all Christian leaders in Ghana.

Amongst other things, listing the qualities of a Christlike leader.  Alan Kyerematen mentioned a transformational leader, a servant leader, a compassionate leader, a Shepherd leader, and an ethical leader.

“When I was starting (my presidential bid) I called all the church leaders for a breakfast meeting. After that, I also did a Thanksgiving service.

“…I did this because I have come to realize that Ghana needs not just a Christian leader but a Christ-like leader. There is a difference between a Christian leader and a Christ-like leader,” he said.

The former minister of trade and industry, therefore, asked the founder and leader of the Parliament Chapel International, Prophet Amoako Attah, to pray for him so that he would become a Christ-like leader.

Mr. Kyerematen also thanked the pastor for his prayers and support for his presidential bid.

Alan John Kwadwo  Kyerematen was in the company of Nana Ohene-Ntow, Yaw Buaben Asamoa,  Dickson Adomako Kissi, Frank Agyekum, and a host of others.

Some ten prominent figures in the NPP will contest for the position of the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2024 elections.

They include; as Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Kwadwo Poku, an Energy Expert, Mr. Alan Kyerematen, a former Trade and Industry Minister, and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Additionally, the lineup comprises Mr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Food and Agriculture Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, a former Energy Minister, Mr. Edward Addai-Nimo, a former MP for Asante Mampong, and Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, an Economist.

The New Patriotic Party has set Monday, 3 to Thursday, July 6, 2023, for the vetting of prospective presidential aspirants.

The NPP in a statement on June 12, stated was borne out of an emergency Steering Committee (SC) meeting held on Tuesday, May 30.

The party maintained that its  National Congress will be held on Saturday, November 11.

“Following the press release of the Electoral Commission and the Party’s preparation towards the Assin North by-election, the Party, at its emergency Steering Committee (SC) meeting held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, revised the timelines of some of the activities of both Presidential and Orphan Constituencies primaries elections,” the NPP in its statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong noted.
