Anas’ Modus Operandi Is Terrorism Not Journalism – Judge Declares As Tiger Eye’s Defamation Suit Is Thrown Out

His Lordship Justice Eric Baah of the Accra High Court has thrown away the defamation suit brought against Member of Parliament of Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong by Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Anas had wanted the court to grant him a damage to the tune of GHS 25 million. However, the judge awarded a GHS 50,000 fine against the plaintiff, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

According to the court, Kennedy Agyapong provided sufficient evident to prove that Anas used the findings of his work to extort monies from his victims implicated through his investigations.

Reading his judgement in an open court, Justice Eric Baah described Anas Aremeyaw Anas as a blackmailer and an extortionist.

He again proceeded to add that the modus operandi of Anas is not investigative journalism but an investigative terrorism.

“I hold that the plaintiff is a blackmailer who uses blackmail to extort money from his opponents and people he does not like. What the plaintiff is doing is not investigative journalism but investigative terrorism,” he stated.

He, therefore, dismissed the defamation suit filed by Anas against the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. The Justice stated that the case lacked merit.

The judge further held that although the words spoken against Anas were factual and capable of defamation, they could not be proven.
