Assin North demonstrated Ghanaians cannot be bought — Ato Forson

Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson says the re-election of James Gyakye Quayson, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin North Constituency is a clear indication that Ghanaians cannot be manipulated with money.

Mr. Quayson was sworn in as the Assin North MP on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Minority Leader, Ato Forson noted that all efforts by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win over the electorate were fruitless.

He said, “The people of Assin North demonstrated that they cannot be bought by projects and money.”

According to Ato Forson, democracy triumphed because the electorate chose to re-elect Mr. Quayson despite the NPP’s cash-spraying spree, projects, and skeletal projects.

The Minority Leader further reprimanded President Akufo-Addo over his prejudicial campaign comments that Assin North constituents should not to vote for Gyakye Quayson who is likely to be a jailbird.

“The comments of the president during the campaign in Assin North are not only prejudicial but a threat to democracy,” Mr. Forson expressed.

He also noted that Ghanaians despised the current government and said they would vote out the NPP in the 2024 elections.

Cassiel Ato Forson further declared that the Minority caucus will abstain from Parliamentary proceedings on days when the Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, is due to appear in court for an ongoing criminal prosecution against him.
