Bank Of Ghana’s Response To NDC’s Claims Is Useless & Bogus – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has pooh-pooed the response of the Bank of Ghana to his party’s claims on the 2022 Financial Report of the Central Bank.

According to the 2022 Audited Financial Report of the Central Bank, it recorded an unprecedented GH¢60 billion loss in the 2022 Financial Year.  The BoG explained that the losses emanated from challenges the country had faced since 2019 including the recent Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP) embarked on by the government.

Following the publication of the report, the opposition NDC has heavily descended on the board of directors including the governor calling them out on what they describe as mismanagement of the bank. The NDC is further insisting on the dismissal or resignation of the Governor, Dr. Ernest Yedu Addison.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 2023, to respond to some of the claims of the NDC, the Bank of Ghana further expatiated the cause of the huge loss and also explained all the expenditure items leading to the huge loss.

But responding to the statement of the BoG on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Sammy Gyamfi rubbished the explanations of the Central Bank describing it as useless and worthless.

According to the maverick and vociferous communications officer, the BoG statement among other things failed to address the principal claims of the NDC and further noted that the explanations for the huge losses are flimsy excuses and contrived explanations.

“The statement from the Bank of Ghana which purports to respond to the Press Conference of the National Democratic Congress on the state of our Central Bank is totally worthless and useless. As a matter of fact that statement is not worthy of the sheet of paper it was printed on. I say so for two main reasons, number one; the statement does not address the fundamental issues that the NDC raised concerning the current health of the Bank of Ghana and the underlying factors or the actions and inactions of the bank that has led to that,” the National Communications Officer of the NDC hit back.

He continued that, “the statement does not in any way address the fundamental issues. Number two; the statement is worthless and useless because it provides very flimsy and contrived excuses for the outrageous expenditures the bank engaged in last year.”

He, therefore, implored the Ghanaian public to disregard the purported justification of the Central Bank insisting on the calls for the resignation or dismissal of the governor.
