Cecilia Daapah’s saga: NPP accuses OSP of engaging in media charade

Deputy Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor of engaging in a media charade over Cecilia Dapaah’s saga.

The embattled former minister has been in the spotlight following an alleged theft that occurred in her Abelemkpe residence in Accra.

Two house helps of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour are facing charges at an Accra Circuit Court, for allegedly stealing monies and items worth millions of cedis from the couple’s residence at Abelemkpe in Accra.

The accused individuals, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei, have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing.

The alleged thefts occurred between July and October 2022.

A High Court in Accra would be determining whether the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) can continue its freeze of the assets of the embattled former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.

This comes after the OSP filed an application for the court to confirm its freeze order of some of Cecilia Dapaah ‘s assets.

Speaking on Hot Seat on Original TV, Deputy Communication Director of NPP, Ernest Owusu Bempah accused the OSP of playing to the gallery thus leaking vital information to Joy FM to undermine the embattled minister.

He called on the Special Prosecutor to stop engaging in selective justice and attach the same approach to the Air Bus case involving former President John Dramani Mahama.

“Kissi Agyabeng, there is no difference between maize and kenkey,” he said in Twi and continued, “If you are prosecuting Cecilia Dapaah, then also take up the mandate and prosecute Mahama for his involvement in the Air Bus scandal, Ghanaians want to know ”

Mr. Owusu Bempah noted that the former Sanitation Minister is an accomplished businesswoman and she’s also weathered through the om[pediment of life.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor is engaging in media charade. The Office is supposed to complete the investigations before making any information public. By now, her office, State Housing, or whatever we call it, must have been ransacked, and an audio report to implicate her and know the amount she embezzled that will aid in her prosecution and subsequent jail. You haven’t done that and you are leaking information to Joy FM. If you have frozen someone’s account and so what? Has there been a shred of empirical evidence to show indeed she stole it?” the Deputy NPP Communications Director.

He further charged the Office of the Special Prosecutor to chase individuals keeping money in their homes.

“There are a lot of businessmen who keep monies in their homes. I tell you! This a new dimension the Office of the Special Prosecutor must take a look at,” he said.
