Cecilia Dapaah Saga: Kissi Agyebeng is conning the public – Martin Amidu

Martin A.B.K. Amidu, a former special prosecutor and attorney general, has accused Kissi Agyebeng, his successor, with misleading the public by claiming to have unfrozen Cecilia Dapaah’s bank accounts and assets.

Amidu claimed that Agyebeng’s actions are deceptive because the High Court is still considering the matter and the court has not yet issued any order confirming the freezing of the accounts.

Amidu expressed shock at Agyebeng’s attempt to assert control over the unfreezing of five bank accounts, which are a part of Agyebeng’s own ongoing application in the High Court involving Dapaah’s assets.

He said that the High Court had earlier turned down a request for an order confirming the Special Prosecutor’s administrative freezing in July 2023.

Therefore, rather than the Special Prosecutor making an independent decision to lift the freezing order, the matter of unfreezing these bank accounts should be decided by the court.

Agyebeng was chastised by Amidu for putting Dapaah on trial in the court of public opinion and was charged with seeking to mislead the people and the media.

He emphasized that the points raised by the Respondents in the court hearings scheduled for October 12, 2023 have been added to the case’s body of law.

Amidu stressed that Agyebeng should have applied to the court for the accounts to be unfrozen and for the hearing about the remaining bank accounts to continue.

Amidu also voiced concerns about Agyebeng’s actions, such as his plea to the Chief Justice for a different judge, which ultimately resulted in the cancellation of the court hearing scheduled for October 12.

He said that rather than utilizing the media to mislead the people, Agyebeng should have presented his case before the High Court.

Amidu finished by reminding Agyebeng that his job as Special Prosecutor is subject to legal restrictions and is distinct from his prior position as legal advisor to the anti-corruption startup Tiger Eye PI.

He demanded that once the Chief Justice’s instructions regarding the petition had been answered and the substantive case had been heard, Dapaah’s attorneys hold Agyebeng accountable for his actions in open court.

Amidu’s assertion raises concerns about Agyebeng’s performance as Special Prosecutor as well as the propriety of his behavior in managing the freezing and unfreezing of accounts in the Cecilia Dapaah case.
