Do African leaders understand the peace language? – Annie Afua Ampofo wonders

Metro TV’s Annie Afua Ampofo has stated that it seems African political leaders do not have a full grasp of what security in a country entails.

Hosting the Good Morning Ghana show on July 31, 2023, the TV host punched gaping holes into the African continent’s acclaimed peaceful trait, while asking relevant questions on what makes a country peaceful.

These comments were made in relation to the coup in Niger and Putin’s summit with 40 African leaders which welcomed the Wagner Mercenary group leader of Niger’s Coup, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Explaining her views on stability, she said, “When we talk about peace and stability, I am convinced that African leaders do not understand what we mean by peace and stability and they deceive themselves by thinking because the military is not taking over and Police are keeping peace in the country and maybe, crime is reduced, it means that we have peace and stability,” she noted.

Annie Afua Ampofo indicated that human security is the “most paramount if not one of the paramount aspects of security.”

“African leaders continue to disappoint their people and they forget that we are faced with the absence of peace because of the economic situation we are plunged into,”: she added.
