Do not undermine your role in the sustenance of democracy – Oforikrom MCE to youth

The Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Abraham Kwame Antwi has admonished the younger generation in the municipality not to undermine their contribution towards sustaining the country’s Democracy.

He made this statement in an engagement with students of Weweso M/A JHS as part of activities to mark the 2023 Edition of “Citizenship Week Celebration” (CWC).

CWC is an annual flagship programme of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) which is targeted at students of various schools nationwide, and this year, the Commission aims at reaching Eight Thousand and Eighty (8,080) schools across the country.

Shedding more light on the theme for the Celebration, “Thirty (30) years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy and Building National Cohesion”, the MCE intimated, that Ghana has come a long way in deepening the democratic practice and hence, the need to concretize the gains made.

Meanwhile, the Oforikrom Office of NCCE, in observance of the Citizenship Week Celebration, engaged majority of the schools within the Municipality and brought on board eminent and respectable members of the area including assembly members, members of staff of the municipal assembly, religious leaders as well as some opinion leaders.

Spanning from 30th May to 16th June, they took turns in the various schools, as resource persons, to sensitize the students on the values we uphold as a people including nationalism, patriotism, the protection of public property, respect for others, discipline, among others.

They stressed that living along the lines of these values is one of the surest ways the young ones can ensure the democracy we enjoy will continue to prevail, adding that failure to do this will have dire repercussions on the nation en bloc.

In expression of appreciation, teachers and other authorities of the schools commended staff of the Oforikrom Office for their regular engagements, adding that they will ensure they provide a providence for the students towards adherence to the National Values.

The students, who felt enlightened, also extended depths gratitude to the Office for creating such an honourable platform to interact with the highly revered personalities in the enclave, and assured, they will imbibe these values in order to grow into good and responsible citizens of the country.
